BAKERSFIELD (AP) — A California ice cream truck driver has been sentenced to life without parole in the murder of his brother and the brother's business associate, whose screams while being stabbed were captured on a 911 recording.
The Bakersfield Californian reports (http://bit.ly/OrKlE1) that a Kern County judge issued the sentence against 58-year-old Narinder Kumar on Thursday.
Prosecutors said Kumar killed his brother, 53-year-old Moti Lal, and Lal's business partner, 54-year-old Balwinder Singh, on Christmas Day 2009 at an ice cream warehouse in Bakersfield.
Singh and Lal were co-owners of the company from which Kumar bought ice cream. Kumar allegedly told police Singh had threatened him for buying ice cream from cheaper suppliers.
A jury found Kumar guilty last month of two counts of murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon other than a gun.
No charges for hotel

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Police say they won't press charges against an Omni Hotel San Diego employee who admitted to putting a hidden camera in a public restroom at the luxury hotel.
The hotel notified police on June 8, three days after hotel security discovered it and the hotel's director of engineering Richard Bourque resigned.
Lt. Andra Brown said two victims seen on video weren't identifiable, so the penal code doesn't apply and the case has been closed.
It's unclear how long the camera had been in the bathroom, how many recordings exist, and how many of those were reviewed by investigators.
Hotel officials said no other cameras were found in a security sweep of its public restrooms and private rooms.
Driver high on nitrous
oxide pleads in fatal crash
SACRAMENTO (AP) — A Northern California man who was high on nitrous oxide when he crashed his SUV into a car, killing two people, has pleaded guilty and faces nearly 10 years in prison.
Michael Dean Sharp entered pleas to two counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and to a third charge of felony drunk driving causing great bodily injury.
The Sacramento County prosecutor said Thursday that the 22-year-old man will likely be sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison when he's sentenced next month.
Investigators say Sharp was driving his Ford Explorer and had inhaled nitrous oxide just before the January crash that killed 37-year-old Christopher Stephen Ohlander Martell and his 32-year-old brother Robert Todd Ohlander.
