LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a pickup truck explosion that shattered windows in North Hollywood was sparked when a man huffing propane inside the cab plugged in his cellphone charger.
The Los Angeles Times says the man, who had a burned scalp and face, turned himself in to police Wednesday. He was not arrested.
The man told investigators he was trying to get high by huffing propane. He plugged in his charger, sparking the blast early Tuesday in a residential area.
The truck had its roof blown off. Some residents living within a square block of the explosion were briefly evacuated.
The man says he wandered out of the truck before firefighters and police arrived and passed out on a lawn.
