Manteca adopts rules to allow sidewalk dining to help downtown

Sidewalk dining has played a role in the revitalization of a number of downtowns.

The Manteca City Council, keeping that in mind, adopted new ordinance language to allow for “revocable encroachment permits” to allow restaurants to apply for a Sidewalk Café Revocable Permit with the Community Development Department.

City staff believes sidewalk dining has the potential to help increasing foot traffic in both the downtown area and for eating and drinking establishments.

There are now a set of rules in place that covers how much of an encroachment is allowed in order to provide for safe passages of pedestrians, the type of fencing and/or other ways to block of the area using flower  planter boxes, and general access to the dining area.
