SAN MATEO (AP) — State wildlife officials are warning residents in a San Francisco Bay Area community to be on the lookout for a mountain lion that may still be in the area.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife says a resident observed the animal near a deer carcass in his south San Mateo neighborhood early Tuesday morning.

A wildlife officer later determined that the juvenile deer had been killed and eaten by the lion.

Officials scheduled a 1 p.m. Wednesday news conference to discuss the sighting and provide safety tips. They say the mountain lion could still be in the vicinity.
