A 31-year-old Manteca woman was seriously injured at 8:40 p.m. Saturday when she was struck by a westbound taxi cab as she was crossing West Yosemite Avenue in a crosswalk on her way to a grocery store.
Manteca Police Sgt. Rob Armosino said the woman was unconscious at the scene with extensive injuries. The victim was reportedly thrown onto the hood of a Dodge Caravan taxi cab and into the windshield. She was transported to San Joaquin County Hospital in French Camp.
Manteca’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) was called to the scene to record coordinates and complete an investigation. The westbound lanes of Yosemite Avenue were closed to traffic for five hours.
Neither the name of the 54-year-old driver of the taxi or that of the cab company were released. The cab driver was not reported to have been injured in the crash.
The woman’s condition was not known at press time Sunday night. Sgt. Armosino said the case remains under investigation.
