Christine Anna Amen, a 48 year old mother of three, passed away in her Manteca home on January 21, 2009.  Christine was a registered nurse who brought a standard of excellence and a compassionate smile to all she encountered in her professional career and her personal life.  Known to many friends as Christa, she was  recognized for her witty and entertaining sense of humor.

Christine was born January 10, 1961 in Fremont, California to proud parents Louis and Lillian Dawson.  She attended Washington High School in Fremont and went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science degree from San Jose State University.  With high collegiate honors, Christine began her nursing career at Lodi Memorial Hospital where she served in the Intensive Care Unit and the Cardiac Care Unit and then transferred to Kaiser Hospital in Sacramento.  Christine’s parents became a part of her collective memory and professional identity.

Most fundamental to Christine’s identity was her role as a mother.  She adored her sons Isaiah, age 15, Zachariah, age 14, and Josiah, age 9.  Nothing brought greater joy to her than playing with her boys.

In addition to her children, Christine is survived by her parents, Louis and Lillian Dawson of Fremont; siblings Kathleen Krueger of Manteca, Susan Hobbs of Jackson, and Andrew Dawson of Camarillo; aunt Linda Nunes of Jackson, uncles Pete Giovacchini of Fremont and Lino Giovacchini of Tracy; nieces Angela Hobbs Chopra of El Dorado Hills, Laura Hobbs-Dorris of Ione, Marie Hobbs of Jackson, Jenny Hobbs Hutzler of Laguna Miguel, Kaylee Dawson and Abbey Dawson of Camarillo; and nephews Nicholas Krueger and Thomas Krueger of Southern California.  Christine was preceded in death by infant son Jordan Amen, and grandparents Regina and Narciso Giovacchini.

In life Christine knew what it meant to endure.  James 5:11 reminds, “We consider blessed those who have preserved… the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.”  And so it is in death that Christine continues her spirit of empathy by recognizing her great-nephew Daine Hobbs-McKinney who faces type 1 diabetes daily.  In lieu of flowers the deceased requested that donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.  To give please call (800) 533-CURE (2873) and learn more at www.jdrf.org

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, 120 Wall Street 19th Floor, New York, NY 10005.

A  memorial service is Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 at 2 p.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca. Burial is private.
