James L. Vannest

James L. Vannest was born in Palmer, Texas. Since his father worked for the railroad, he spent his childhood growing up throughout the Midwest.  He was a 50-year Mason, belonged to the Community Christian Church in Manteca, and is a lifetime Kansas University Alumni. James lived and traveled throughout the United States. He enjoyed traveling to spend time with family and friends.

He is survived by his children Deborah Stephens of Missouri, Kate Smith of California, James Vannest, II of Missouri, and Kevin Vannest of California; and three sisters: Edna Sherwood of Los Banes, Martha Hardy of Los Banes, and Glee Cowan of Orland, CA. He had five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009 at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel, Los Banes beginning at 2 p.m.
