Jesuina Brazil Pires, 79, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 19. She was born on November 5, 1932 in Terceira, Azores. She is preceded in death by her parents Constantino and Jesuina Costa as well as infant children and her brother Constantino.

Jesuina leaves behind her children; Manuel Pires and wife Christine of Manteca, Joe O. Pires and wife Lucy of Manteca, Arie Cota and husband Tony of Santa Clara and Mary Lou Sousa and husband Ilberto of Stockton. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren; Monica Abrew and husband John, Jessica Dutra and husband Tony, Veronica Pires, Joe Pires Jr., Bryan Pires, Tony Cota Jr. and wife Germaine, Raymond Cota, Andrew Cota, Michael Sousa, Melissa Sousa and Matthew Sousa. Jesuina has also 7 great grandchildren; J.P. Abrew, Maximo Abrew, Constantino Abrew, A.J. Dutra , Liliana Dutra, Jacqueline Sousa and Paisley Abreu.

Jesunia was a long time Manteca resident who worked at Eckert Cold Storage for over 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and tending to her garden as well as visiting her local casinos. She was a faithful member at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and was devout to Our Lady of Fatima. She loved attending the yearly festas. Jesuina became a soccer fanatic always cheering on her grandchildren. Jesuina was all about her family always cooking up their favorite meals and showing how much she loved them. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. She will be truly missed.

Arrangements for Ms. Pires are under the direction of P.L. Fry and Son Funeral Home, 290 North Union Road, Manteca. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 23, from 1 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary immediately following. A mass of Christian burial will be on Friday, February 24, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 505 East North Union Road. She will be laid to rest at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
