Marie Peterman Goodlad passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Bethany Home in Ripon, after a short illness.  She was born Dec. 22, 1919, on the family ranch near Tracy to Walter and Marguerite Peterman.  

Marie attended New Jerusalem School, Tracy High School and Humphrey College in Stockton.

She met the love of her life Edwin “Bob” Goodlad in 1942 and they were married a month later.  Marie had two careers; first with Southern Pacific Railroad during World War II and later she spent 30 years as a personal secretary for Continental Can Company in the Bay Area.  

Marie and Bob made their home in San Lorenzo.  They enjoyed numerous cruises at locations around the world as well as travels to England, New Zealand and Australia and throughout the United States.  After Bob’s death in 1988, Marie relocated to Ripon to be close to her family.

She is survived by her sister Marguerite “Betty” McBrian; nieces and nephews, Sharon Newburg (Ed), Bob McBrian, Pat Van Dorst (Roy) all of Ripon; Katy Peters of Modesto, John Peterman (Pam) of San Diego, Tom Peterman (Ann) of Florida, Richard Peterman of Tracy and many loving great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded by her parents and her brother Jack (Chris) all of Tracy.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Bethany Home for being her “home” and providing their loving care in the last months of her life.

Visitation will be on Sunday, Aug. 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel.  Services will be on Monday, August 17, at 10 am at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel with burial following at Tracy Public Cemetery.  Remembrances may be made to Bethany Home Society, 930 W. Main Street, Ripon CA 95366.
