Roseline Mello-Camara, a resident of Manteca and surrounding areas since 1937 peacefully passed away on October 31. Born in 1918, Rose spent over 101 glorious years loving and being loved, a life worthy of much celebration!
Rose is preceded in death by her first husband of 49 years, Daniel Mello of Manteca and her second husband of 16 years, Joseph Camara of Tracy, and her great-grandson, Lucas Freitas.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Mello, and her daughter, Helen Neal. She is dearly loved by her granddaughters and their families, Julie (Mello) and Tom Williams, Angela (Mello) and Harry Freitas, Laura (Mello) and Joe Cornett, and Kim (Neal) and Bryan Dawes. Her joyful example will live on through her great grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew, and Danielle Rose Dawes, Nate Williams, Olivia and Sofia Freitas, Joaquin and Antonio Cornett. Her step-children are Evelyn Long and husband Hugh, Joseph Camara, Jr., Robert Camara and wife Alice, Michael Camara, and Raymond Camara and wife Michelle. She has many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren that she loved dearly.
Rose attended St. Anthony's Catholic Church since her marriage to Dan in 1937 and was active in the parish for over 75 years. She was also an active member of MRPS. Many members of the Manteca community will remember Rose from behind the counter at Manteca Department Store, where she worked for 33 years. Never one to sit idly by, she remained active well into her nineties. She loved her friends at Merrill Gardens and enjoyed the activities and outings. Rose (Babe, to her close friends) worked as a greeter at Walmart until she was 96 years old, just short of 25 years. She served the community well with her warm smile and helpful spirit. Rose moved to Pacific Hills Manor in Morgan Hill 5 ½ years ago to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She quickly became a ray of sunshine to the residents and staff there. Her family is grateful and appreciative of the care she got while living at Pacific Hills Manor.
Roseline Mello-Camara was a blessing to her family, her community, and all who came in contact with her. She warmly welcomed everyone she met, set the example of graciousness and generosity, giving and serving at every opportunity. Rarely did you catch her without rouge and lipstick, perfectly coiffed hair, and manicured nails. Beautiful inside and out. The world is a better place because she was in it. She is loved deeply, will be missed dearly, and her 101+ years are worthy of great celebration.
P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the Mello Camara family. A private, graveside service will be held at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, in consideration of the health and well-being of friends and family. When appropriate, a celebration of life will be held to honor, remember, and celebrate her. In the meantime, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rose’s name to a charity of your own choice.
