Editor, Manteca Bulletin,
Another election has come and gone. At long last two new faces have been elected to the Manteca City Council.
Gone for good is Councilman Vince Hernandez. He’s had his glory days, and getting his pet personal projects done hopefully are gone, too.
After failing to get city staff to reverse Maple Avenue from a previous election while raking in hundreds of dollars from local merchants, Hernandez failed to snowball city staff on this issue.
Hernandez was a failure and now he’s failed again – this time not being elected by voters in our fair city.
He raked in $5,000 or more from “big buck” donors.
Voters have had enough. It’s time to go, Vince.
Hernandez said he had no qualms accepting the results. But knowing Vince like I do, his pride was hurt.
Deep down, Hernandez, no doubt, will seek sympathy from the new members and the rest of the council to appoint him on finish out Steve DeBrum’s term.
DeBrum was elected Manteca’s new mayor.
Hopefully, the new council will use good judgment in selecting a new person for those remaining two years.
Several good prospects include Gary Singh, who at the present time is on the Manteca Planning Commission. Jack Snyder, no doubt, would be happy to serve or at least consider Ben Cantu – but this will not happen since Ben is not in the “in” crowd or tea toddlers / ‘yes’ men group.
Good luck Ben if you are serious about running for City Council in 2016. You have a tough road to travel. It is a jungle out there, Ben. You will be facing many obstacles.
It’s time for the new council to place term limits to four years (on council) and four years on the mayor’s position, starting next election.
