Police need to enforce traffic laws

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

I read most of the news stories that are authored by you in the Bulletin. Some I like and some don’t interest me at all. The recent ones that you addressed are about what the local police have been doing for the last year and so far this year. The articles you wrote about the decline of tickets issued by the Police Department for traffic violations is was very interesting.

It appears that the local police are not interested at all in issuing tickets for those motorists that do not stop at stop signs or right turn after coming to a complete stop, unless it’s a yield sigh. All they would have to do is just wear civilian clothes and pick any busy intersection in the city to see how many motorists do not adhere to the DMV laws.

Another problem I see is: what department is responsible for issing tickets to motorists that drive with old registration tags on their license plates? You see this a lot around town and on the local highways that go through the city limits. Here’s another one: Who’s responsible to insure that those motorists that park in the handicapped zones have the proper documents displayed?

As far as I’m concerned, the police are more interested in the homeless problem in Manteca. We have all heard of all the excuses they give you when you ask them why they aren’t doing what they are hired to enforce.

One other problem I have with the Police Department in general is when it comes to applying for a concealed weapons license. They will give you an old application to fill out which does not take in consideration the recent court ruling on “Just Cause”. It’s 13 pages long, and if you ask why this application hasn’t been updated, the young lady at their department window will tell you because Manteca is a small city.
