A baseball bat assault to the head left a woman in her late 20s unconscious and bleeding at the edge of the 200 block of McNary Circle shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday.

The woman had just left a babysitting job nearby when an earlier argument with two neighborhood women reignited in the street.

Breanna Yepez, 24, allegedly struck the victim in the head several times with a baseball bat while Alexis Yepez, 19, reportedly threw a red brick at her head but missed. Manteca Police say  a large rock was also thrown at the victim’s car.

The victim was transported to a San Joaquin General Hospital trauma unit in French Camp “with potential life threatening injuries,” according to officers. 

Breanna Yepez, who lived nearby, was charged with attempted murder and is being held in San Joaquin County Jail without bail, according to the Sheriff’s website.  Alexis Yepez, from a Northgate Drive address, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and is also being held at county jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Officers confirmed there was a previous disagreement between the victim and another uninvolved female adding that one of the female suspects intervened between the two women.  The victim and the female suspect then got into a fight and the victim left the area.  According to reports the victim walked into the front yard of the residence where she threw a large piece of concrete at the suspect’s parked vehicle.

The victim reportedly left the scene in the 200 block of McNary Circle but returned a short time later when the suspect and another female confronted her about the damage to the vehicle and a fight ensued.  

“The woman went to the ground and was struck a few times in the head with a baseball bat.  The second female suspect threw a brick at the head of the victim but missed,” according to the police report. 

During Officer Travis Johnson’s investigation, he was able to identify the suspects and learned of their locations.  They were both taken into custody, according to police.  

The victim was treated and kept under observation over night at San Joaquin General Hospital and then released, police said. 

One neighbor said residents had been experiencing ongoing problems with damage to their vehicles parked on the street.  

As of Sunday afternoon nothing had been scheduled for the pair in the San Joaquin County Superior Court with Monday being a holiday.
