Modesto Junior College swept the 2023 Big 8 Conference Track & Field Championships.

The men’s team rolled past second-place Delta College, 248-139, while the MJC women’s squad edged Delta in the eight-team field, 224.5-203.5.

Spearheading the victories were several local products.

Rahsaan (Sonny) Dozier from the Manteca High Class of 2020 led the Pirates, winning both the long jump and triple jump. He ran a leg on both first-place relay teams – 4 by 100 (former Buffalo Domenic Favaloro was also part of that sprint team) and 4 by 400 – enroute to being named the top athlete of the meet.

Aaron Wood is a graduate of Ripon High. He helped MJC in the league championship meet by taking first-place in the pole vault and placing second in the triple jump.

Wood, in addition, is the Northern California champion in the decathlon, according to MJC coach Demitirus Snaer.

Abe Asaidi from Ripon captured the 10K race for the Pirates.

For the MJC women, freshman Camrenne Genilla (Manteca High Class of 2022) took first in the javelin. She, too, qualified for the state meet in the heptathlon.
