MOUNTAIN HOUSE — Sierra kept Mountain House out of the red zone Friday night and managed a pair of first-half touchdowns, holding on for a 13-0 Valley Oak League win.
“The defense played well,” Timberwolves coach Ryan Teicheira said. “They made good stands. They played the pass well.
“We had the opportunities for big turnovers, but they were in the right spots and they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. Our coverages and our run game up front did good, especially on short-yardage stops. It’s nice to see the defense running around and making plays.”
Sierra’s Jaed Alcatuer switched from inside to outside linebacker and was happy with the move.
“I was very excited to play a new position,” Alcatuer said. “My nerves were going, and I love to play the game of football.
“Shutting them out was amazing. We had the high energy, and I love the effort from all of our guys.”
Blama Kamara and Isaac Kempf added to the Timberwolves defense with an interception apiece and Kamara chased down a Mustangs receiver and made a touchdown-saving tackle.
Kamara was instrumental in the offense as well, scoring both touchdowns for Sierra (1-1 VOL, 4-2 overall) on touchdown passes of 11 and 42 yards from Jaysen Martinez.
“I have had opportunities for picks this season,” Kamara said. “I was able to use my long arms and pluck that touchdown throw and then make a move on the safety and take it to the house.”
Martinez was 4 of 7 passing for 75 yards with two touchdowns.
“It felt good directing the offense,” Martinez said. “But I know we can do more.
“We’re more efficient than this and I’m glad that we won.”
Venn Piedad tallied 72 yards on 13 carries for the Timberwolves.
Mountain House (0-3, 1-6) totaled 147 yards of total offense.
Sierra hosts Manteca on Friday at 7 p.m.
