Aquino, DeGuzman earn titles in Escalon

ESCALON — Lathrop High’s junior varsity wrestling team had nine Spartans place at the Escalon Tournament this past weekend.

Leading the charge were junior Chris DeGuzman and sophomore Andrew Aquino, who each came away with individual titles.

DeGuzman improved to 11-0 on the year after winning his final match by technical decision, 15-0, in the 145-pound weight division. At 125, Aquino went 2-0 for his first-place medal.

Newcomer Hamza Alfara won back-to-back matches before falling in the 140-pound finals for second place. Luis Oregel (130) took third and went 3-1.

Others earning medals with fourth-place finishes were Jenna Howard (103), Roosavelt Theoudele (112), Erik Valencia (119), Christian Pena (135) and Oscar Munoz (171).

Howard and teammate Samantha Harris will next compete in the California Interscholastic Federation Northern California Regional Championships at Inderkum High in Sacramento this Friday and Saturday.
