The Ripon boys basketball team stands alone atop the Trans-Valley League standings after thrashing Riverbank on the road Wednesday, 67-47.

The host Bruins (2-1, 13-5 overall) came into the game riding an eight-game winning streak. Ripon (3-0, 14-5) has won eight in a row and beaten its first three league opponents by double digits.

The Indians jumped out to a 16-4 first-quarter lead and continued to build on the advantage. Landon Gillespie accounted for four of Ripon’s seven made 3-pointers, hitting three of them in the second quarter and ending with 21 points.

Logan Lefebvre added 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Dawson Downs netted 10 points and 10 rebounds. Ty Herrin also pumped in 10 points, while Marcus Madoski had eight.

Rolando Bazan and Erick Jimenez did the bulk of the scoring for Riverbank with 17 and 16 points, respectively.

Ripon welcomes rival Escalon on Friday.

 

Escalon 64, Ripon Christian 62

After a missed free throw with 7 seconds left, Escalon (1-1, 14-3 overall) grabbed the defensive rebound and went coast-to-coast for a dramatic, last-second win. Point guard Ethan Garza (19 points) found an open Ryan Lewis (13 points) in the key for the buzzer-beating layup.

The Cougars found their groove offensively in the second half after mustering just four points in the second quarter and trailing at halftime, 26-23.

Mason Tameling paced Ripon Christian (1-1, 11-6) with 20 points and three 3s. Luke Crivello made five 3s and scored 18 points. Jake Vander Veen chipped in 12 points, and Jace Beidleman had 10.
