Buffs in battle for third place

STOCKTON – The Manteca High Buffaloes ran into a tough West Campus squad in the second round of the Trojan Clash Tournament at Lincoln High on Friday.
The Warriors (4-1) of Sacramento forced Manteca (2-3) into a series of turnovers with their full-court, man pressure defense.
The Buffaloes fell, 56-9.
They’ll play Kennedy High of Sacramento for third place. Tip-off is 1 p.m. today  at Lincoln High.

Weston Ranch 49, Gregori 41
MODESTO – The Cougars (2-3) will be playing in today’s consolation title game of the Lady Crusader Tournament.
They earned their way by defeating Gregori Friday.
“Our game plan was to pound the ball inside,” said Weston Ranch coach Darrell Johnson, whose team jumped out to a 17-9 lead in Modesto.
Justice Stitt was beneficiary of that with 15 points. Asia Stamps added 10.
Johnson also praised Vanessa Vega for her all-around effort – she had seven points, six steals, seven rebounds, and seven assists.

Argonaut 53,
Ripon Christian 44
JACKSON – The Knights had trouble containing the Argonaut duo of Macie Arevalo and Madison Hoyt in the Quarterback Club Tournament.
The 6-foot Arevalo poured in a game-high 18 points while the 5-11 Hoyt added 13 for the host team Mustangs.
“They’re a very, very good team,” said Ripon Christian coach Ed Mulder.
His Knights trailed 11-2 to kick off the game but made up some ground with a strong second quarter.
Down 33-25 at the half, RC was buried by a strong third-quarter performance by Argonaut.
Leading the way for the Knights were sophomore Renae Heida and freshman Morgan Van Elderen, who was just called up to the varsity level. Heida had 13 points and Van Elderen chipped in with 10.
RC will play Freedom today at 1 p.m.

Edison 58, Lathrop 49
STOCKTON – The Spartans (3-2) will play at 3:30 p.m. today for third place in the Tony Contreras Delta Queen Classic.
Lathrop lost to Edison in Friday’s second round action.

Sophomore
Ripon Christian 29, Escalon 20
Ripon Christian will play in the consolation title game of the East Union Tournament today against Ripon beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The Knights topped Escalon Friday in a defensive battle.
Ariel Vander Woude led the way with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Alex Hilvers contributed with eight points, eight boards, and three blocks.
Sarah Brown chipped in with eight points.
East Union 54, Sonora 37
Nina Murphy scored 16 points for the Lancers in the semifinals of Camelot Classic on Friday at Dalben Center.
Sarah Gleockler added 11 points and Lelani Menor 10.
East Union faces Tracy for the championship today at 7:30 p.m.
