Cougars better, not good enough in loss

WESTON RANCH — Coming off a 6-0 loss Tuesday, Weston Ranch was looking to rebound Wednesday at home.

Although a 3-1 loss to Stagg was the result, Cougars head coach Carlos Gaspar was happy with his team’s effort this time around.

B.J. Gonzalez found net for the Cougars with 10 minutes remaining off an assist from Abraham Bustamonte.

The Delta Kings led 2-0 at half.

“We played better than (Tuesday),” Gaspar said. “The team stepped it up a bit today, but we still have to get healthy.”

Gaspar lauded the efforts of keeper Jesus Pacheco, and said his team will rest up for the next few days in preparation for the first Valley Oak League contest of the season, Monday against Lathrop.

“Now it counts,” Gaspar said. “League is what we are gunning for.”
