Weston Ranch had the challenge of not looking past the Kimball Jaguars in anticipation of its Valley Oak League boys basketball showdown with Sierra High. The Cougars passed with big numbers, rolling past the Jaguars 90-64 Wednesday in Stockton.

Weston Ranch (5-0 VOL, 14-2 overall) handled its end of the situation, as did Sierra with a 30-point win over Lathrop High. The two meet Friday at Weston Ranch with the inside lane to the VOL championship lying in the balance.

Andre Beard got loose for a game-high 20 points, closing with a double-double by pulling down a dozen boards for the Cougars. Melvin Allen added 19, Daveion Leverett had 14 and Zerrion Payton had 12.

Sierra 82, Lathrop 52

Sierra High had no problems staying focused on the visiting Spartans.

Sierra (5-0, 14-3) will roll into Weston Ranch High Friday for the most highly anticipated VOL game of the season.

The Timberwolves had a business-as-usual approach to their matchup with Lathrop, finishing with four players in double figures. Jarrod Patton led all scorers with 18, while Will Ward added 16. Both Tim Thorton and Guillermo Nunes finished in double-figures with 10.

The Timberwolves and Cougars are scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. tip-off.
