CROSS COUNTRY: Wild leads Ripon’s 5th-place finish at Duyst invitational

Ripon’s girls cross country team showed well against large-school competition this past weekend in the Kim Duyst Twilight Invitational hosted by Stanislaus State.

Annie Wild finished the 5,000-meter course at River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres in 19 minutes, 30.9 seconds, good for third place individually. As a team, the Indians took fifth out of 13 teams with 125 points. Davis Sr. and Lodi were the top two teams with 37 and 48, respectively. Sierra placed 19th with 284 points, and Ripon Christian followed in 11th with 312.

Contributing to Ripon’s solid effort were Jenna Skavdahl (20th, 21:10.4), Mallory Govia (24th, 21:49.2), Starla Skiles (36th, 22:24.5) and Asia Rose (42nd, 22:47.6).

Mikayka Bueno (46th, 23:01.4) and Marissa Gonzalez (48th, 23:06.0) turned in top-50 finishes for Sierra. Analise Anaya was 53rd in 23:51.6. Pacing Ripon Christian were Maya De Jong (54th, 24:00.5), Addison De Jong (55th, 24:10.4) and Anika Schoolland (58th, 24.34.1).

In varsity boys, Ripon and Sierra finished seventh and eighth, respectively, as the Indians had the 177-215 edge. Ripon Christian was 18th with 494 points. Davis Sr. and Vacaville were the top two with 50 and 64 points.

The top three varsity boys from the area represent Ripon, with Julio Pelaez (23rd, 17:32.0), Devin Fitzpatrick (27th, 17:43.8) and Valente Hernandez (32nd, 18:00.8) leading the charge. Sierra was spearheaded by Tristan Crowe (33rd, 18:02.0), Christian Gonzalez (40th, 18:19.6) and Ernesto Pacheco (41st, 18:19.6).

Manuel Alvarez led Sierra’s fourth-place finish in the 2k frosh-soph boys race. He took 15th individually in 7:07.7 Ripon’s frosh-soph girls took sixth and were led by Kyla Agbayani-Duenas (20th, 8:46.7).

Ripon’s JV boys finished as the runners-up. Luke Bair (fourth, 15:14.4), Ivan Gladnikov (eighth, 16:08.2) and Ivan Serrano (16:10.6) placed in the top 10.

 

Josh Ruff Memorial Invitational

Michael Salcedo led Lathrop to its 20th-place team finish Saturday at Willow Hills Reservoir in Folsom. He clocked a time of 12 minutes, 30.70 seconds for 68th place out of 254 individuals. Aron Camacho took 73rd in 12:35.90.

Lathrop’s varsity girls took 20th out of 24 teams with 467 points, Oak Ridge won with 84. Taimane Lowery (83rd, 16:26.70), Deisy Carrasco (93rd, 16:37.30) and Stephanie Andrade Salcedo (99th, 16:51.50) spearheaded Lathrop.
