East Union makes easy work of Spartans in rout

The East Union Lancers had a relatively easy time taking care of the Latrop Spartans, knocking the Spartans off in Valley Oak League girls sophomore basketball with a 50-27 win Tuesday in Lathrop.

East Union (7-2 VOL, 13-4 overall) cruised to victory behind a 13 point effort from Alex Scopas. Angelique Cardoza finished with 10 and Jessica Campa chipped with eight.

Lathrop was led by Jasmil Calix’ 10 points, followed by nine from Loreal Taylor.

Sonora 41, Sierra 24

Sierra got a dominant performance from Allison Walljasper, but it wasn’t enough in the Timberwolves’ 41-24 loss to Sonora Tuesday.

Walljasper stung the Wildcats for five points, 15 rebounds and 11 blocks in the loss, while teammate Valerie Nestor chipped in with six points and nine rebounds.

Weston Ranch 35, Oakdale 30

The Cougars were shorthanded due to prior commitments and illness, but it didn’t stop the squad from remaining perfect in VOL play with a five-point win over Oakdale Tuesday.

Aljanae Brown poured in 16 points in just over a quarter of work to lead all scoreres. Anna Haley chipped in with eight.

The Cougars (9-0, 17-2) will try and remain perfect when they travel to Lathrop High to take on the Spartans Thursday.

Freshman

Lathrop 50, East Union 20

Lathrop High used a strong game from Akila Lesley to push past the Lancers 50-20 Tuesday in VOL play.

Lesley led all scorers with 14 points, while the lancers got six points and eight rebounds from Nayeli Del Real and five points from Danielle Herrera.

Sierra 36, Sonora 30

Courtenay Brown put together a 15 point, seven rebound, six steal contest to lead Sierra to the VOL win Tuesday over Sonora.

Kayla Honeycutt also had 10 points and five assists, while Lynda Crescini pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
