Manteca High’s boys tennis team had no letdown following a big win, shutting out crosstown rival East Union 9-0 at home Friday.

On Thursday, the Buffaloes (5-0, 8-4 overall) defeated Weston Ranch in a first-place showdown by a closer-than-it-looks7-2 margin.

“It was a nice, solid win,” Manteca coach Frank Fontana said. “It’s always tough to follow up a match after a big win for first place. Hopefully we can maintain this momentum next week.”

Manteca anticipates another tough contest next Tuesday when it heads to Sonora.

The Buffaloes’ singles players all won in straight sets Friday. Oral Nunis cruised 6-0, 6-1 in the matchup of No. 1s. Manteca’s No. 2-6 players remain undefeated in league play with Michael Lopez (6-0, 6-1), Jacob Webb (6-2, 7-5), Yok-Jing Ma (6-3, 6-1), Chris Kloska (6-0, 6-1) and Alex Vazquez (6-2, 6-0) coming up on top.

The best contested match came at No. 2 doubles, where Angel Tejada and Izham Reger downed EU’s Augi Mendoza and Kevin Flores, 4-6, 6-0 (10-8). Sam Dhaliwal and Puneet Sandhu prevailed at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 7-6. Edgar Fernandez and Spencer Jackson won, 6-2, 7-5.
