The Ripon girls wrestling team tied for first place with Los Banos on Saturday in the Trans-Valley League championships at Modesto Christian, and five Indians brought home gold medals. This is the third consecutive league title for Ripon.

Trinity Diaz (106 pounds), Jade Diaz (126), Riley Rangel (139), Alexia Garcia (150) and Katelyn Cardoza (160) all finished in first place. Jeevika Chaudary (143) finished second and Shaylin Potter (143) finished third.

“Both seniors, Cardoza and Rangel look to do well,” Indians coach Eric Barrega said. “Cardoza hopes to keep a few streaks going — she is looking to be a three-time Divisional champion, a two-time Masters champion and Ripon’s first three-time state qualifier.

“Rangel has been accepted to wrestle at Midlands, and she is also looking at schools in Montana and Oregon.”

Ripon will now compete in the two-day Sac-Joaquin Section South Regional Championships at Central Valley High in Modesto.

In the TVL boys championships, five Ripon wrestlers qualified for the two-day Division V championships at Foothill High in Sacramento beginning on Friday.

Maclaine Medeiros (170) and Daniel Hendricks (220) finished second and Bradley Eldredge (132), Jacob Hughes (195) and Liam Ferris (285) were third.
