STOCKTON – The Gabby Hawkins era got off to a sterling start Friday at Edison High as Sierra’s junior ace struck out 11 and missed a perfect game by a single base on balls in a 4-0 Timberwolf win.
Hawkins’ first varsity no-hitter was complemented well at the dish, as Sierra racked up 11 base hits against one of the better pitchers of the Sac-Joaquin Section, senior Genevieve Reyna.
Emily Silvia finished 3 for 4 with a pair of double and two runs batted in.
Heather Scharmann went 2 for 4 with her own double and two more RBIs.
Monica Morado went 2 for 4 as well.
“It was a good team effort,” T’Wolves head coach Nick Olmo said. “We scattered a bunch of hits throughout.
“It was a very good game.”Sierra (1-0) hosts Tracy Tuesday.
First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Weston Ranch (0-1) had six hits and no errors, while Bear Creek had 13 knocks and one fielding miscue.
Antonio Joseph was 1 for 3 with an RBI double, and Chris Fleckenstein went 2 for 4.
The Cougars kick off the Escalon Tournament Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
