Huerta, Oblin lead SJS qualifiers

ANGELS CAMP — Weston Ranch’s Tomas Huerta placed second Saturday in boys Division IV and led the Cougars to a second-place team finish in the Sac-Joaquin Subsection meet at Frogtown in Angels Camp.

Huerta ran a 16 minute, 46 second race and will be joined by Jeremiah Robancho, Nicholas Curtright, Jeremie Robancho, Brian Arevalo, Jerry Ramirez and Tyler Blea on Saturday in the SJS Section Championships in Folsom. 

Megan Oblin of Sierra was fourth (19:55) in the Division III girls and the Timberwolves finished sixth. Advancing for Sierra will be Megan Oblin, Savannah Verschuur, Jasmin Correa, Diana Cruz, Emily Cunial, Julia Recker and Hallie Shirley. 

The East Union girls finished eighth in Division III and as a top-10 team will be advancing with Julia Vezaldenos, Kelley Higginson, Kelly Ball, Ellena Markham and Jadyn Snaer. 

Weston Ranch’s Iris Carrillo finished sixth in girls Division IV (20:24) and Ripon’s Kayla Jacklich was 10th (20:57). The Indians finished fifth with Sandra Castillo, Aiko Dearth, Makeila Hinrichsen, Mackenzie Winters, Avery Thomason and Isabel Sweet. 

Sierra took fourth in boys Division III with Jesse Hurtado, Lionel Orhiere, Arish Balasubramania, Trevor Ryan, Sabas Montes, Isaias Ghezae and Oscar Guitron.

In junior varsity boys III-IV-V competition, Sierra’s Erick Ruvalcaba was fourth (18:27). The East Union girls were fifth in the Junior Varsity III-IV-V race with Alicia Mya Perez, Nyah Catalfo, Angela Fausto, Alexis Smith and Nicole Robertson.

Frankie Leyva was sixth (12:17) in sophomore boys Division III. Lathrop’s Omar Estrada was ninth (12:58) and the Ripon team of Brock Sadler, Josh Atilano, Alex Newkirk, Elias Herrera, Aidan Nilsson, Zaahir Zaro and Brandon Panameno fifth in Freshman Boys Division IV.  

The Ripon girls were fifth in frosh-soph Division IV with Abbigael Williams, Gianna Brocchini, Kate Phelps, Kiana Mikami, Gabriella Graham, Denver West and Chloe Kiser while Lathrop was sixth with Jayna Rodriguez, Tiffany Ormonde, Jasmine Ormonde, Paola Baltazar, Jasmine Palacios and Allesondra Giordano.
