OAKDALE — Move over, boys.
It’s the ladies’ time to shine.
Ripon High’s water polo program, already with a decorated boys team, celebrated a first Wednesday in its regular-season finale at Oakdale, as the varsity girls won 11-3 to finish an undefeated run to their first Valley Oak League championship.
The boys team is the league runner-up after falling to the first-place Mustangs, 8-4. The top two varsity girls and boys teams in the VOL advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs that begin next Thursday, Nov. 7 for the girls and Nov. 8 for the boys.
Molly Burton led the Ripon girls (8-0 VOL, 18-5 overall) Wednesday with three goals. Lilly Crew and Ashtyne Topie pitched in two apiece. Haven Fasani, Kaylee Medeiros, Amy Bacay and Eleanor Tran each had one.
Details of the varsity boys match were unavailable as of press time. The Indians end up 6-2 in league and 9-10 overall.
Ripon’s junior varsity girls team (15-2) also went undefeated in league play, defeating Oakdale, 8-5. Kennedy Brubaker tallied four goals and two assists. Taylor Blair added two goals and two assists. Mia Lopez and Hailey Knief scored one apiece. Mia Sickler and Knief split time at goalie, filling in for injured Delaney Brubaker (shoulder).
