Lancers cant keep up with parochial powerhouse

East Union High will play for third place today in the Tom Hawkins / Tracy Breakfast Lions Girls’ Basketball Tournament.

On Thursday, the Lancers (8-2) fell to Brookside Christian Knights, 69-28.

East Union will take on Napa at Tracy High, with the third-place game scheduled to tipoff at 6 p.m.

The title game between Tokay and Brookside Christian is scheduled for 7:30.

“We lost to a very good basketball team,” said Lancers coach Jim Agostini of the Knights.

Shalane Jackson led East Union with 15 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Tiare Tu’uga had nine points and four steals.

In other tournament games:

Manteca 61, Patterson 39

Jaqi Gutierrez netted 17 points including three 3s in the Buffaloes’ consolation bracket victory.

She also grabbed seven boards.

“We blew the game wide open in the third quarter,” said Manteca coach Andrea Hiatt.

Karleasha Thompson helped out with 14 points and nine rebounds. Mikayla Hasal, who also had five assists along with five steals, and Brianna Bell both finished with eight points.

Manteca (10-1) will take on Foothill today in the consolation game. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 at West High.

Lathrop 57, Modesto 51, OT

Jazlyn Simon went 3 for 3 from the foul line in the extra session to help the Spartans get past the Panthers in the consolation game played at West High.

She finished with 19 points.

“Jazlyn was clutch in the overtime,” Lathrop coach Ed Fang said.

The Spartans (2-7) will take on Enochs at 1:30 today.

Tied 45-45 at the end of regulation, Lathrop outscored Modesto in the overtime, 12-6.

Celina DeSantis chipped in with 10 while Jasmine Calix and Janet Visaya both finished with seven.
