Brandon Waidmann squeaked out a three-set victory over Ripon Christian’s Darren Boersma in the No. 1 boys singles match, and it proved to be the difference in Lincoln High’s 5-4 victory at the Ripon Community Center tennis courts Tuesday.
The Fighting Zebras of Placer County heads to Escalon Monday for a third-round match in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Team Tournament.
Waidmann came back to beat Boersma, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
The Southern League champion Knights picked up one win in singles play, as No. 2 boy Mason Veilleux gutted out a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Abner Apsley.
The coed doubles contest also went a third set, as the Ripon Christian tandem of Derrick Witt and Lauren Herbert prevailed 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 over Tyler Newberry and Nicole Salgado.
Ripon Christian’s top girls doubles duo of Katie Donoho and Stephanie Van del Pol dominated their match, 6-1, 6-3. Mariah Alger and Dakota Eastin, the Knights’ No. 2 girls team, also prevailed in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Kristi VanDiver (4-6, 1-6), Haley Veileux (2-6, 3-6), Kyle Van Vuren and Casey Kamper (2-6, 4-6) and Kendall Witt and Brandon Brown (3-6, 3-6) also competed for Ripon Christian.
The SJS Division III Individual Tournament begins at 10 this morning at Oak Park Tennis Courts in Stockton.
