Ripon Christian captured its third straight outright championship in the Southern League Thursday with a 25-19, 25-15, 25-21 win at Mariposa Friday.
The Knights (13-0, 22-6 overall) will look to finish league with a perfect record at Waterford next Monday.
Coach Tiger Shelton was impressed by the raucous atmosphere created by the Mariposa faithful, but his club got a little support, too.
“It was very loud in their gym,” he said. “Our soccer team cheered us on after they had just beaten their soccer team; they were loud, but (Mariposa’s) loud was louder.”
The battle-tested Knights were not rattled, as they produced a complete effort to overcome their top rival in the SL.
Kristy Van Diver led a balanced attack with nine kills, while Brittany Petlansky’s stellar all-around effort included eight kills and two aces. Libero Kaylie Colyn added 21 digs and three aces, while setter Andie Shelton recorded 25 assists and a pair of aces. Teagan Manus and Cassidy DeRousse controlled the middle, posting four and three blocks, respectively.
“The girls played a great game,” Coach Shelton said. “Our back row passed really well, and the front row was at the top of its game.”
