Luke Crivello and the rest of the Ripon Christian boys basketball team started out on fire Wednesday when they began their defense of the Trans-Valley League championship at Hughson.
Crivello torched the Huskies for 25 points in the 80-34 rout. He drained two early 3-pointers, totaling 10 points as the Knights (1-0 TVL, 10-5 overall) raced to a 26-8 lead.
They were just getting started. In the third quarter, Crivello knocked down three more from beyond the arc and accounted for 13 of RC’s 31 points. The Knights led 73-25 going into the fourth.
Sophomores Amos Cady (seven rebounds, four assists, three steals) and Mason Tameling added 13 points apiece. Jace Beidleman had nine points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Jake Vander Veen also scored nine points to go with six rebounds and four assists. Walker Postma added seven points and 10 boards.
Ripon next travels to Merced on Friday to face Stone Ridge Christian in a non-league matchup.
Ripon 67, Livingston 54
The Indians (1-0, 12-5) overcame a slow start in their TVL opener at Livingston (0-1, 5-12), using a 24-point outburst in the second quarter to lead 31-26 at halftime.
Dawson Downs paced Ripon with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Landon Gillespie chipped in 16 points, Ty Herrin scored eight of his 10 in the second quarter, and Marcus Madoski added nine points and seven boards.
Adrian Aguirre pumped in 15 points for the host Wolves.
Ceres 75, Lathrop 72 (OT)
Lathrop (0-1, 2-11 overall) dropped its first Western Athletic Conference tilt of the season and seventh straight overall.
Raymond Carson racked up 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Spartans, while Bobby Cotton collected nine points, 19 boards and nine assists.

Lathrop 2, Beyer 1
In Modesto, the Spartans (2-1, 8-4-3) held on for the needed WAC victory.
Alan Hernandez assisted both of their goals, first finding Jorge Garcia with a corner-kick cross for a header and a 1-0 halftime lead. Lathrop doubled the advantage in the second half when Hernandez set up Juan Morales’ 1v1 opportunity with a through ball.
The game shifted when Beyer (0-3, 2-8) buried its lone goal, but goalie Jashanbir Bhuee (five saves) and the rest of the Lathrop defense repelled the late rally.

East Union 3, Downey 1
The Lancers (5-6-1) closed their pre-league schedule on a high note at Dino Cunial Field.
Ashley Vasquez, Jenna Campbell and Kaylee Mejia scored one goal apiece. Chloe Silva contributed a pair of assists, and Gabrielle McIntosh had one.
East Union kicks off Valley Oak League play Friday against visiting Central Catholic.

Sierra (10-3-3) was shut out in its in final non-league tune-up. The Timberwolves host rival Manteca on Friday for their first VOL game of the season.

Francisco Martinez’s hat trick helped power the Spartans (1-0-2, 2-4-4 overall) to their first WAC win.

Lola Galvan registered four goals, and Kimberly Lira scored two in the dominant win for Ripon.

Adrian Vaye accumulated 16 points, 18 steals and seven rebounds in the Spartans’ conference opener.
Bryan Gamboa contributed 16 points, five steals and five assists. Jayden Davidson pulled down 16 rebounds to go with 14 points.
Zac Smith chimed in with seven points and seven steals.
