Manteca’s girls tennis team opened Valley Oak League play Tuesday with a dominant 6-3 win over defending champion Central Catholic at Manteca Regional Tennis Center.
Katie Kim, the reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Division II singles champ, took care of Mianna Robinson 6-0, 6-0. The Buffaloes won all six singles matches.
Chloe Marquis defeated Caden Wilson at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-3, Emma Ngo swept Riley Freitas 6-4, 6-1 and Shreya Raman fended off Peyton Garrett 6-2, 7-5 in the Nos. 3-5 matches.
The fifth and sixth singles contests went to third sets. At No. 5, Manteca’s Jenna Poncini outlasted Adriana Saldivar, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Christina Nguyen won via default after her opponent retired in the final set with the score tied 2-2. Nguyen dropped the first set 3-6 before getting the 7-6 (2) edge in the second.
Eva Pasion and Alizee Jung dropped the No. 1 doubles match to Gulsayn Grewel and Katy Houghton, 1-6, 1-6. Guadalupe Mercado and Parm Toor were downed by Isis Zulita and Landyn Wetzel, 2-6, 4-6. Lorilie Phoung and Michailla Springs lost to Kaden Kemp and Mia Phillips, 4-6, 4-6.
Manteca next plays at Sierra today in a makeup match.
GIRLS GOLF
Ripon 160, Bret Harte 177
The Indians battled blustery conditions at Jack Tone Golf Course and improved to 4-0 in the Valley Foothill League North Division.
Gabbi Ilardi shot an even 31 to lead the way. Katie Martin (39), Aaliya Martinez (45) and Gabby Calderara (45) rounded out scoring. Carly Hickman (43), Caroline Krpan (44) and Maggie Kristaff (44) paced Bret Harte (2-2).
Lathrop def. Johansen, Grace Davis
The Spartans totaled a score of 371and picked up two wins via forfeit in the Western Athletic Conference match at Manteca Park Golf Course.
Sanah Sunner led Lathrp with a 68 and was followed by Manjot Kaur (80), Sara Serdar (71), Mya Grisham (76) and Kate Albisv (76).

In Los Banos, Hannah Stewart did most of the damage for Lathrop with three goals. Elizabeth Rodriguez scored the other.

Christian Buerster fired three goals, while Connor Giovannoni added two for visiting Lathrop.

Camila De La Garza compiled 15 assists, five aces and four digs as Lathrop (3-1, 5-4 overall) picked up the WAC victory in Modesto, 25-16, 25-21, 25-13.
Azul Maldonado contributed eight kills and six digs, while Alaba Olaleye added five kills and five digs. Celeste Narvaez collected 15 digs.
Ripon Christian 3, Orestimba 1
The Knights (3-0, 12-4 overall) warded off a spirited effort from visiting Orestimba to notch a 25-22, 25-12, 23-25, 25-21 Southern Athletic League win.
Jordan Vander Veen amassed 15 kills and 18 digs. Ava Van Groningen registered 14 kills, 13 digs and two solo blocks. Avery McMurray contributed nine kills, six aces and 24 digs. Megan Weststeyn comiled 49 assists, nine digs and four blocks.
JV volleyball
Lathrop 2, Grace Davis 0
The Spartans swept 25-17, 25-14 behind Annie Millan’s five kills, four aces and four digs. Julia Roaquin chimed in with seven aces and seven assists. Justine Mabutas posted seven digs. Valerie Renteria and Briana Elayba each served four aces.
Frosh volleyball
Lathrop 2, Grace Davis 1
Alyana Vere amassed 16 aces, as the Spartans held on for the 12-25, 25-17, 15-11 victory.
Shakara Porter contributed with three kills, two solo blocks and two aces. Kriselle Matela had four aces, three assists and three digs. Angelic Bermudez chipped in four digs.
