ROUNDUP: Manteca tennis clinches postseason berth

Manteca routed Kimball 8-1 Tuesday in a Valley Oak League boys tennis match at Manteca Regional Tennis Center, locking down a berth to the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.

The Buffaloes won every singles match and were highlighted by freshman Michael Osanna at the No. 6 spot. He defeated Ahmed Shakil, who previously played as Kimball’s No. 2, 6-4, 6-3.

From the top of the ladder, Jonas Mueller and Yok Chai Ma both won, 6-0, 6-0. Emiliano Hurtado (6-1, 6-2), Ivan Barajas (6-1, 6-1) and Luke Samson (6-2, 6-1) also swept.

The No. 2 doubles team of Vincent Almeida and Landon Butler won, 6-3, 6-2. No. 3 Gilbert Troche and Declan Edwards dominated, 6-1, 6-0. Michael Levchenko and Alexander Chatham lost to Tejveer Singh and Yas Singh, 6-4, 2-6, 10-6.

 

Weston Ranch 8, East Union 1

Guadalupe Reyes picked up the lone point for East Union with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Junior Alejo in the No. 5 singles match.

Weston Ranch’s Victor Perez (6-4, 6-2), Ruben Avalos (6-2, 6-2), Frankie Ambriz (3-6, 6-1, 7-4) and Ben Moua (6-3, 6-1) won at Nos. 1-4. Matthew Alconcel prevailed 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-5 over Gabriel Torres in the well-contested No. 6 singles match.

Manvir Singh and Simean Singh knocked off Selvin Currin and Arjun Patel in the lone doubels match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. East Union forfeited the second and third doubles matches.

 

BASEBALL

Lathrop 12, Johansen 1 (5)

Jasper Tover rung up 10 strikeouts in his mercy-shortened three-hitter and was also 3 for 4 at the plate with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs.

The Spartans (5-4 Western Athletic Conference, 7-6 overall) totaled 12 hits. Alyuss Duenez also roped a pair of doubles, stole four bases and drove in four runs, finishing 3 for 3. Adrian Zuniga went 2 for 3 with two runs.

 

Oakdale 4, Weston Ranch 0

Visiting Oakdale (5-2 VOL, 11-6 overall) plated a run in the top of the first inning, giving winning pitcher Johnny Wylie all the support he would need.

He limited the Cougars (0-7, 5-13) to just two hits, a first-inning single by Dustin Tinsley and a double by Jose Aguilar in the sixth. Andrew Montano drew a pair of walks and was hit by a pitch.

Tinsley pitched six innings, firing four strikeouts.

 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Manteca 3, Weston Ranch 0

The Buffaloes (5-0, 11-5) wrapped up the first round of VOL matches with a 25-18, 25-17, 25-18 sweep at Weston Ranch.

Camden Steckler and Angel Rodriguez blasted 10 and seven kills, respectively, while Jon Rosas dished out 24 assists. Cedrick Maglinao contributed 14 service points, six of which went for aces.

 

JV boys volleyball

Kimball 2, East Union 0

The host Lancers came up short, 24-26, 23-25.

Victor Sitzmann led East Union with five kills and five aces. Klaio Simpao contributed six assists and two aces. Cash Galvez ended with three aces and three kills.

 

Manteca 2, Weston Ranch 1

Manteca (4-0, 9-2) came out on top in this battle for first place, 25-23, 19-25, 15-10.

Fernandez Lopez spearheaded the attack with 15 assists, two kills and three aces. Yahir Martinez added four aces and a kill. Johan Peringelil added five kills and two blocks.
