ROUNDUP: Manteca tennis ends dominant 1st week in league

Manteca High’s boys tennis team put forth another dominant effort in the opening week of Valley Oak League play, waxing Weston Ranch 8-1 Thursday at Manteca Regional Tennis Center.

Highlighting the match were the all-freshman No. 1 doubles tandem of Michael Osanna and Landon Butler, who defeated Matthew Alconsel and Yair Trujillo 6-4, 6-2 for their first varsity win. The Buffaloes (2-0) also won by default at No. 3 doubles.

It wasn’t close in singles action, as Manteca dropped only five games in six matches.

Jonas Mueller cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Victor Perez at No. 1 singles. Yok Chai Ma (6-0, 6-1), Emiliano Hurtado (6-0, 6-1), Ivan Barajas (6-0, 6-1), Luke Samson (6-0, 6-0) and Kevan Neduvakkattu (6-0, 6-1) also swept.

 

Manteca 3, Tracy 0

The Buffaloes (2-2) bounced back from a five-game loss to West with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-21 sweep on the road.

Jon Rosas spearheaded the attack with 19 assists. Angel Rodriguez swatted 13 kills, and Camden Steckler contributed 11 along with three blocks. Nick Grabowski added five kills.

 

JV boys volleyball

Manteca 2, Tracy 0

Christian Pesqueda fired five kills and six aces, helping Manteca (3-1) coast to a 25-13, 25-9 non-league win.

Micah Crawford chipped in three kills. Fernando Lopez had eight assists, three aces and two kills.
