The Ripon girls basketball team opened Trans-Valley League play Tuesday with a 31-28 win over visiting Livingston.
The Indians (1-0 TVL, 7-8 overall) staked a 12-1 lead by the end of the first quarter, but Livingston (0-1, 7-8) found its shooting stroke in the second half behind Tatianna Muniz and Isabella Zazueta. The each scored 10 points and combined for three made 3-pointers and were 5 of 6 from the free-throw line over the final two periods.
Shayla McKeon led Ripon from the post, netting 10 points and 13 rebounds. Ava Hernandez gave the Indians a needed boost in the second half, scoring all seven of her points. Ripon was limited to just 13 points in the second half.
Kaylee Lehmkuhl added five points (all in the first quarter), six rebounds and three assists. Kailee Inderbitzin knocked down two 3s in the first half for her six points.
Hughson 61, Ripon Christian 31
The visiting Huskies (1-0 TVL, 10-6 overall) blew open a 23-10 first-quarter lead and continued to expand the margin.
Ripon Christian (0-1, 7-6) got 12 points each from Kara Kessler and Reagan Vander Hoek, who also grabbed 12 boards. Mikaela Oosterman chipped in three points, seven boards and three steals.

Manteca 5, Modesto 0
Alexia Alva scored two and assisted one in the Buffaloes’ final pre-league tune-up. They kick off the Valley Oak League season Friday at rival Sierra and are unbeaten at 16-0-1.
Kailee Jackson added one goal and one assist. Makyla Spencer and Gabby Ramos each scored one, and Paisley Coenenberg contributed an assist.
JV girls basketball
East Union 46, Sonora 32
Jerney Luckett produced 15 points, seven rebounds and five steals for the Lancers (13-4), while Bellah Crabb also had 15 points to go with seven steals and five assists.
Samantha Escamilla contributed 13 points and four rebounds.
Ripon 53, Livingston 34
Lauren Peters amassed 14 points and 15 rebounds, as the Indians dominated their TVL opener.
Scarlett Ponce led the scoring with 19 points. Itxel Reynose added 10 points and five boards.

Brooklyn Singh secured the win for Ripon with 1 second remaining, draining two free throws. She and Harasses Hayer each scored nine points.
