ROUNDUP: VOL-leading Buffs take care of Sierra in girls tennis

The Manteca girls tennis team is a step closer to reclaiming the Valley Oak League championship after dispatching rival Sierra 7-2 Tuesday at Manteca Regional Tennis Center.

Katie Kim (6-0, 6-0), Chloe Marquis (6-0, 6-1), Emma Ngo (6-1, 6-0) and Shreya Raman (6-0, 6-0) dominated the Nos. 1-4 singles matches for the Buffaloes.

Jenna Poncini held off Grace Langenfield at No. 5 singles 7-6 (6), 6-1, and Christina Nguyen outlasted Jaden Alton, 7-6 (3), 6-3.

Manteca also took the No. 2 doubles match, as Simran Mann and Parm Toor knocked off Manveer Dosanjh and Kennelly Mejia, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Sierra won at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles. Amber Garza and Simran Dosanjh took care of Eva Pasion and Alayna Bottoms, 6-4, 6-2. Natalie Mejia and Lauren Byrd cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 wins.

 

GIRLS GOLF

Argonaut 173, Ripon 180

Ripon’s Gabbi Ilardi finished 1-under-par 35 at Castle Oaks Golf Club in Ione, but it wasn’t enough in this battle for the top spot in the Valley Foothill League North Division.

Ashley Roeun and Lily Stern carded a 40 and 41, respectively, for unbeaten Argonaut (11-0). Katie Martin backed Ilardi with a 45 and was followed by Aaliyah Martinez’s 49 and Vivian Parsons’ 51. The Indians dropped to 7-2 in dual matches.
