Ja’Leiyah Ray made the most of her four carries on Wednesday, rambling for 133 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Lathrop flag football team’s 39-6 Western Athletic Conference win at Johansen.
The first-place Spartans (4-0, 8-2 overall) did much of their damage on the ground. Faith Allen added three carries for 73 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Aviahna Calderon completed nine of 17 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown each to Morgann Hegler (three receptions, 29 yards) and Ray (three receptions, 45 yards).
Marilynn Nungaray highlighted the defense with an interception returned for a touchdown. Marianna Coon and Sareah Reed collected five flag pulls apiece.
Sierra 39, Oakdale 7
At Oakdale (0-4 Valley Oak League, 1-6 overall), Tessa Zalunardo threw for five touchdowns to three different receivers, finishing 23 of 31 for 269 yards.
Kayla Amarante (eight receptions, 145 yards) and Felicia Cruz-Olenhouse (five receptions, 38 yards) each caught two touchdowns. Sky Kane added a 7-yard touchdown run and a TD reception.
Amarante also led the defense with six flag pulls and three sacks. Genessa Chaparro pulled seven flags, and Autumn Henry added an interception for the Timberwolves (3-1, 8-5).
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Sierra 3, River Islands 1
The host Timberwolves (10-6) held on for the 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21 non-league win.
Corley Simoni paced River Islands (3-9) with 14 kills and 20 assists. Leighann Ruiz hammered a team-high 18 kills. Makaylah Kai Samoranos added 16 assists.
Ada Morales pitched in with eight kills, and Isabella Carrillo had 20 digs.
GIRLS GOLF
East Union 154, Patterson 174
Arianna Pale was low medalist with a 5-over 33 at St. Stanislaus Golf Course, as East Union improved to 3-0 in VOL dual matches, 5-0 overall.
Kaylee Brown and Alizae Farias followed with a 38 and 39, respectively. Michaela Tarr tallied a 44. Sophia Vannatta turned in a 41 for Patterson.
Ripon Christian 169, Escalon 186
Brookelynn Geist got off to a hot start with two straight birdies, finishing with a 9-over 40 at Ripon Golf Club. The sophomore chipped in her first birdie and nearly eagled on the par-3 second hole before the tap-in.
Bailey Van Gorkum added a 42 for the Knights (4-3 Trans Valley League). Brooklyn Schenk and Gianna Masellis contributed a 43 and 44, respectively.

Ayeli Amezcua recorded two flag pulls for losses and a sack, as the Spartans rolled to the shutout win. Ailyn Alcaraz added a flag pull for a loss that went for a safety.
Quarterback Alexia Garcia finished 7-of-12 passing for 63 yards and two touchdowns. Vanescia Rodriguez and Ryleigh Race were on the receiving end of those touchdowns. Arianna Miller contributed a 46-yard touchdown run.
