Scharnow twirls two-hitter in Ripon win over Modesto

Cory Van Warmerdam stroked a leadoff triple in the fourth inning and came around to give Ripon the lead, and Tyler Scharnow did the rest with a complete-game 5-3 victory over the Modesto Tigers in 16-18 Senior Babe Ruth action Tuesday at Mistlin Park.

Scharnow struck out 12 and only allowed one earned run, scattering just two hits. Scharnow was also 2 for 3 at the plate, and scored a run. Jason Angelo had a triple and a RBI, Zac Carrillo was 1 for 2 with a run and RBI and Jon Olague had a hit, two walks and drove in a run.

Ripon put the game out of reach in the fifth when Angelo drove in Justin O’Connell with a triple, pushing Ripon up by three.

Ripon will compete against seven teams in the league from Ripon, Modesto, Tracy and Lodi. Teams are set up for a 19-game schedule.
