Sierra avenges loss with hard-earned sweep

Twenty five points were not enough in Sierra’s Valley Oak League showdown with visiting Lathrop on Monday.

The host Timberwolves avenged an earlier loss to their Manteca Unified rival with a sweep, but it didn’t come easily as they battled their way to 30-28, 26-24, 29-27 victory.

Sierra (3-7, 4-8 overall) is surging after dropping its first four Valley Oak League matches. Valerie Nestor highlighted Monday’s win with three kills, three blocks and two aces. Alexis Davis added three kills and 36 digs, while Faby Lopez and Gabby Olmo served five aces apiece.

Loreal Taylor clubbed 10 kills, and Jocelyn Aranda chipped in eight for the Spartans, who swept Sierra on Sept. 19. Manraj Kaur led the defense with 40 digs, and setter Monica Brambila had 35 assists to go with five aces.



Kimball 3, East Union 0


The Lancers (4-7, 7-10) struggled with strong serving and totaled just seven kills on the night. Kimball won handily 25-10, 25-12, 25-8.

Alex Scopas registered two kills and five digs; Madison Hoffman finished with two kills and two blocks; and Jami Arceo collected eight digs.

East Union is off for the rest of the week until Saturday when it competes in the Stockton Classic.



Southern League

Ripon Christian 3, Turlock Christian 0

Fresh off a 1-3 finish in the highly competitive Presentation Tournament in San Jose this past weekend, the Knights returned to conference play Monday with a 25-8, 25-14, 29-27 win.

Andie Shelton laced 13 kills while handing out 24 assists. Kristy Van Diver pounded 11 kills, and Cassidy De Rousse had five blocks. Kaylie Colyn (10 digs), Teagan Manus and Brittany Petlansky each racked up three aces.

The Knights continue their busy schedule tonight at home against Delhi.



Sophomore

Lathrop 2, Sierra 1


Lathrop came from behind to win 18-25, 25-20, 15-7.

Alex Davis posted eight digs and three aces for Sierra. Olivia Higby and Morgan Willis pitched in five kills apiece.



Freshman

Sierra 2, Lathrop 0


The Timberwolves swept 25-8, 25-15.
