Sierra overcame two first-half deficits and dominated the final 40 minutes Wednesday en route to a 4-2 win over visiting Central Catholic to remain undefeated in Valley Oak League play.
Carlos Mendez scored twice for the Timberwolves (6-0 VOL, 12-4-1 overall), the first of which tied it at 2-2 in 33rd minute. He added the insurance goal in the 61st.
Central Catholic (2-2-1, 4-4-4) took the first lead with an early penalty kick. Eddie Aguilar answered with a PK of his own in the 20th minute before the Raiders recaptured the lead. Kevin Mendiola pushed Sierra ahead for good nine minutes into the second half.
“We did not well,” Sierra coach Joe Pires said. “The team was flat and slow in transition. We got better in the second half and took command of the game.”
Aguilar also had two assists in the win. David Lopez contributed one.
Sierra rounds out the first half of its league schedule next Wednesday, Jan. 18 when second-place East Union visits.
“We got three more points and 6-0 in league is a good place to be,” Pires said. “Next week we have East Union at home — big game. Some of our players need to recover from injuries and be ready to go. EU is also having a good season and it should be a good game.”

The Lancers (4-0-1, 8-1-3) set up their anticipated battle with Sierra with a one-sided effort against Kimball (1-3-1, 3-6-1) at Dino Cunial Field.
Jessue Hurtado and Hector Romero netted two goals apiece, and Daniel Gomez pitched in with four assists. Jonathan Quintana and Zachariah Hernandez each scored once. Goalie Enrique Garcia finished with four saves.

OAKDALE — Ariel Silva knotted the score at 1-all for Weston Ranch (0-4-2, 2-8-5) off a cross from Mario Martinez.
Oakdale (3-1-2, 9-4-2) countered with two late goals, delivering the knockout blow with 10 minutes to go as the Cougars looked to tie it again by pushing their players to the front line.
“The guys competed and played excellent for most of the game, unfortunately the ball didn’t bounce our way in the end,” Weston Ranch coach Francisco Cisneros said.

RIPON — Ripon (2-0, 6-4) got two goals from Cindy Alvarez in the Trans-Valley League victory.
Megan Johnson and freshman Tianna Sidtikun each had a goal and an assist as the Indians led comfortably 4-0 at halftime. Aubree Pelon capped the barrage in the 52nd minute.
