TRACY — Tiana Cello and the Sierra girls soccer team continued their early-season tear with a 3-1 win over West on Thursday.

The freshman phenom accounted for two of the Timberwolves’ goals, both scored inside the opening five minutes of the nonleague match. Senior midfielder Jasmine Loaiza contributed with two assists on her birthday.

Jessica McNair gave West (2-3) a boost with a goal early in the second half. Sierra (6-0-1) answered with the backbreaker in the 35th minute off a set piece from the corner. Loaiza delivered the cross, which glanced off Callie Crain to set up Daisy Valencia for the put-away.

Sierra next heads to Golden Valley of Merced next Wednesday.

Stagg 2, Lathrop 0

STOCKTON — Luis Vargas had two chances to get Lathrop (1-2) on board, first on a direct kick that bounced off the post. He also had a breakaway thwarted by a kick save from the Stagg goalie.

Will Smith kept the Spartans in the hunt with nine saves, but the Delta Kings (1-3-1) were able to seal the win with a goal in the closing minutes.

“It was a very intense game,” Lathrop coach Alfredo Reynaga said. “I thought we kept up with them really well and moved the ball well. We’re progressing as the preseason continues and it’s going to prepare us for what’s to come in the Valley Oak League. It was a tough loss but we’re definitely on the right track.”
