Sierra holds on against Lathrop

Sierra High’s sophomore basketball team jumped out on the visiting Lathrop Spartans and never relinquished, rolling to a 58-46 Valley Oak League win Wednesday.

Tim Thornton paced the Timberwolves with 18, while teammate Joseph Berry fin9ished with 12.

“We were able to build a lead early with good defense and good execution on the offensive end,” Sierra head coach Justin Muschott said. “I don’t like giving up 22 fourth quarter points, but everyone got to play a lot of minutes and everyone contributed to the win.”

Lathrop was led by Marcus Conley’s 14 points and Ricky Chavez chipped in 11.

Manteca 48, Ceres 46
The Buffaloes played most of the contest from behind, but made a run when it counted in their VOL win over Ceres Thursday.

Manteca (6-5, 9-9) took the lead for good when Nick Burrows made good on a last-second put-back, giving the Buffaloes the win. Burrows and teammate Rodney Fryer led Manteca in scoring with 13, while Ryan Fox chipped in a dozen.

Sierra 61, Lathrop 28
LATHROP – It was all Timberwolves in Wednesday’s VOL victory over the Spartans.

Sierra (12-0, 19-0) was led by Emmanuel Elijah’s 13 points, while Guillermo Nunes chipped in 12. Nunes scored 10 of his 12 in the third period.

Frankie Chavez and Eric Melgar both added six in the win.
