Alexia Alva recorded a hat trick Wednesday, highlighting Manteca’s 4-0 girls soccer win at Kimball.
The Buffaloes (3-0-1, 18-0-2 overall) amassed 26 shot attempts and had their way against the dangerous Jaguars (2-1-1, 6-8-1) ahead of another tough Valley Oak League match with Oakdale (2-1-1, 11-5-2), which visits on Friday.
“Their goalie made some pretty good saves, but we were pretty much able to control possession and create some really good opportunities,” Manteca coach Justin Coenenberg said. “I think it was our best showing in league so far and an important one going into Friday when we play against Oakdale.”
Alva scored the first three goals for the Buffs, who led 2-0 at halftime. Corrine Jones and Makayla Spencer each had an assist.
Freshman Kailee Jackson capped scoring in the second half and was set up by Kaley Crawford.
Goalkeeper Haylie Brasil racked up five saves.
Mountain House 4, Lathrop 1
Janessa Ward put away a second-half goal for the visiting Spartans (4-1-1, 7-5-1 overall), but it was not enough to get a result.
Mountain House (6-1, 8-9) sits alone at the top of the Western Athletic Conference standings.
VARSITY BOYS
Ripon Christian 3, Gustine 1
Ripon Christian (2-3-2, 5-9-3 overall) broke away after a scoreless first half, notching a needed Southern Athletic League win.
Drew Meester scored all three goals for the Knights in the 45th, 53rd and 78th minutes. Isaiah Vander Woude assisted two of them, and Danny Lambdin delivered the other. Gustine (2-4-2, 3-11-3) put away a penalty kick in the 64th minute.
Goalie David Koolhaas racked up five saves.
Lathrop 2, Mountain House 1
Lathrop (6-1 WAC, 12-4-3 overall) were able to sneak out the win thanks to Angel Barajas’ go-ahead goal in the second half.
Ociel Mora registered a goal and an assist. Alan Hernandez contributed an assist. Aron Hernandez had three saves as the Spartans’ first-half keeper, while Jashanbir Bhuee closed it out with one in the second half.
“We knew that regardless of their (record), the game can go either way. Mountain House (1-5-1, 2-10-3) is a good team,” Lathrop coach Alfredo Reynaga said. “We came out with that mentality but didn’t match it in the first 15 minutes. We were outplayed and didn’t play our best game, but we played our best in crucial minutes. It’s not the prettiest game, but we’re happy to come away with the points.”

Ripon Christian 4, Gustine 1
The host Knights buried all of their goals in the second half.
Nick Varni and Evan Pryor both had a brace. Wesley Vander Woude and Ethan Mendes each contributed an assist.
Mountain House 3, Lathrop 2
Mountain House strung together three unanswered goals for the win.
Lathrop struck first on Francisco Martinez’s tally assisted by Klever Hernandez. Osmar Avelar scored the Spartans’ late goal.
