SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A plaque commemorating Matt Cain's perfect game has been placed by the San Francisco Giants on a walkway outside the right field wall at AT&T Park.

Cain, the first Giants pitcher to throw a perfect game, was honored on Friday night in a pair of ceremonies before San Francisco hosted the Colorado Rockies.

The Giants brought in nearly two dozen members of Cain's family, along with his high school coaches, in celebration of the right-hander's gem on June 13 against the Houston Astros.

A bronze plaque bearing Cain's likeness, with the word "Perfect" in large letters on top, was laid into the cement walkway surrounding the Giants waterfront ballpark and sits near McCovey Cove.

"It's cool," Cain said. "It's pretty amazing to think that in 50 years that plaque will still be there."

Cain struck out a career-high 14 in his 125-pitch perfect performance against the Astros. It was the second perfect game this season and the 22nd overall.

The All-Star hugged several members of his family, who were gathered in front of the pitcher's mound, and listened to tributes from his high school coach and Giants manager Bruce Bochy.

The start of the San Francisco-Colorado game was delayed for 15 minutes.
