Martinez, Miroglio lead the way for Visalia

VISALIA (AP) — Renae Martinez reached base five times as the Visalia Rawhide beat the Modesto Nuts 6-4 on Tuesday.

Dominic Miroglio singled twice with a pair of runs and a couple of RBIs for Visalia.

Visalia grabbed a 4-1 lead in the first after Ramon Hernandez hit an RBI double, bringing home Miroglio.

Trailing 6-2, the Nuts cut into the deficit in the seventh inning when Manny Pazos hit a two-run home run.

Modesto missed an additional scoring opportunity in the seventh, when Kyle Lewis flew out with the bases loaded to end the inning.

Visalia right-hander Emilio Vargas (7-4) picked up the win after allowing two runs on three hits over five innings. Opposing starter Darren McCaughan (4-7) took the loss in the California League game after a rough outing in which he allowed six runs and seven hits over three innings. Tommy Eveld retired the side in order for his 10th save of the season.
