MODESTO (AP) — Gareth Morgan hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning, and Evan White homered and had two hits, driving in two as the Modesto Nuts topped the San Jose Giants 12-1 on Tuesday.
The home run by Morgan scored Nick Zammarelli and Luis Liberato to give the Nuts a 4-1 lead.
The Nuts later scored eight runs in the sixth to punctuate the blowout.
Modesto right-hander Darren McCaughan (3-3) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on seven hits over six innings. Opposing starter Raffi Vizcaino (3-3) took the loss in the California League game after giving up four runs and five hits over five innings.
