VISALIA (AP) -- Ljay Newsome, Austin Hutchison and Seth Elledge combined for a shutout as the Modesto Nuts topped the Visalia Rawhide 2-0 on Thursday.

Elledge got Drew Ellis to hit into a double play with a runner on first to end the game for his ninth save of the season.

Newsome (5-6) picked up the win after he struck out four while allowing three hits over five scoreless innings. Cole Stapler (0-1) went six innings, allowing two runs and four hits in the California League game. He also struck out four and walked one.

Modesto scored its runs when Bobby Honeyman and Luis Liberato hit RBI singles in the second and third innings.

The Rawhide were blanked for the sixth time this season, while the Nuts’ staff recorded their third shutout of the year.
