Stockton repels Rawhide’s rally in 9th to even series

STOCKTON (AP) — Chase Calabuig homered and doubled, scoring three runs and driving home a couple as the Stockton Ports defeated the Visalia Rawhide 8-7 on Thursday.

The Ports evened the California League divisional playoffs at 1-1. The best-of-three series shifts to Visalia tonight. 

Trailing 8-4, the Rawhide cut into the deficit in the ninth inning when Pavin Smith hit a two-run single and Ramon Hernandez hit an RBI single.

Sam Sheehan got Anfernee Grier to ground out with runners on first and third to end the game for his second save of the season.

Stockton started the scoring in the first inning when Calabuig hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Rosa. Viosergy Rosa singled twice with an RBI and a run for Stockton.

Jake Bray (2-3) got the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief while Visalia starter Jeff Bain (4-3) took the loss.
