Cowboys varsity strikes paydirt against CV 49ers

Manteca's David Espinoza (81) chases down Gabriel Gonzalez during the Manteca Cowboys rookies’ 33-6 win over Central the Valley 49ers.

Mehtaab Banghu threw three touchdown passes for the Manteca Cowboys varsity in a 36-0 shellacking of the Central Valley 49ers in Central Valley Youth Football and Cheer action.

Banghu was 3 of 4 passing for 114 yards with touchdown throws of 25 yards to Gabriel Lopez, 40 yards to Bobo Gallegos and 49 yards to Nico Juarez. Gallegos added a 30-yard touchdown run and Anthony Lynch scored from 45 yards out.

Juarez made five tackles, Anthony Valdez four and Gabriel Lopez, Hoku Ap’e and Anthony Oteri added three stops apiece. Isiah Grey and Julian Ruiz also contributed on defense. 

Manteca Jr. Buffaloes 24, Modesto Raiders 0

The Jr. Buffaloes scored all their points in the first quarter.

Manteca scored on rushing touchdowns of 8 yards by Brayden Camara and 35 yards by Micah Cardoza. Owen Gully hit Carson Sablan with a 40-yard scoring pass and Fernando Villalvazo split the uprights with three conversion kicks.

Maava Tialavea led a balanced Jr. Buffaloes ground game with 49 yards on seven carries. Carson Sablan added 47 yards on seven carries and Cardoza tallied 41 yards on four carries.

Cardoza, Sablan and Tialavea (fumble recovery) made seven stops apiece with Mathieu Evans (fumble recovery) adding six tackles.

Junior varsity

Cowboys 44, 49ers 0

Nikko Hisapryor returned the opening kickoff 73 yards for a Cowboys touchdown and Manteca never looked back.

Julian Ramirez threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Adrian Sena and ran for an 8-yard touchdown. Sena added a 45-yard touchdown run, Dean Sortonis scored from 35 yards out and an Elias Lopez interception led to a 55-yard scoring gallop by Tyler Pettis.

Sortonis was all over the field for the Cowboys with 12 tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Antonio Sanchez, Hisapryor and Julian Perez made five tackles apiece with Michael Rivera adding four stops. Lopez made three tackles and two pass deflections to go along with his interception and Austin Lee recovered a fumble.

Jr. Buffaloes 33, Raiders 0

Lucas Ruiz and Maddox Morales combined for nearly 250 yards for the Jr. Buffaloes.

Ruiz had four carries for 128 yards with scoring runs of 35 and 65 yards and Morales ground out 115 yards on eight carries. Brody Carabello (3 for 3 passing, 35 yards) ran for a 2-yard touchdown and found Madden Melendez with a 20-yard touchdown pass. Erick Cortez added a 1-yard scoring plunge.

Morales made five tackles, Joey Aucello four and Melendez and Ruiz three apiece. Alex Espinoza contributed on defense.

Rookies

Cowboys 33, 49ers 6

Terrance Montgomery ran wild for the Cowboys.

Montgomery had six carries for 260 yards with touchdown runs of 23, 47, 47, 51 and 92 yards. Erian Johnson Jr. and Giovanni Perry also contributed to the Manteca offense.

Jonathan Morales led the Cowboys with nine tackles and a forced fumble, Devin Cortinas and

Ja'leah Mitchell made five tackles apiece with Bryant Lewis (fumble recovery), Erian Johnson Jr. and Montgomery tallying four stops apiece. 

Raiders 25, Jr. Buffaloes 6

Santino Sanchez scored from 3 yards out in the fourth quarter to avert a shutout.

Sanchez (44 yards, five carries), Luke Scalise (40 yards, five carries) and John Ellis (41 yards, five carries) made up the bulk of the Manteca attack.

Sanchez made nine tackles, Brach Carabello five and Keoni Oliver, Grayson Keller, Ellis and Manoah Ellis four apiece.  

Starts

Cowboys 33, 49ers 0  

Semaj Thornton ran for more than 100 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Cowboys.

Thornton tallied 132 yards on just four carries. Max Rios (two carries, 44 yards), Mateo Gavino and Charvelle Moore-Stevens (six carries, 36 yards) each scored a touchdown apiece.

Moore-Stevens and Ivan Torres each made eight tackles and Abil George seven with two fumble recoveries.

Varsity

Chavez Jr. Titans 19, Manteca Chargers 14.

Logan Pool scored both touchdowns for the Chargers

Shane Foreman, Alijah Hawkins and Matthew Johnson played well on offense for Manteca.

Pool made eight tackles. Antony Blue, Abel Ceballos and Camron Spino had standout defensive games for the Chargers.

Junior varsity

Jr. Titans 33, Chargers 6

Darien East scored the lone Chargers touchdown and Dominic Roa chipped in with offensive support.

Nicholas Holt made five tackles for Manteca with Adriel Cooks and Darien East playing well on defense.

Novice

Jr. Titans 7, Chargers 0 

Isaac Estrada and Junior Evans legged out some long runs for the Chargers with Zackery Behrbaum and Tobias Cox also playing well on offense.

Evans recovered two fumbles to lead the stingy Manteca defense. Behrbaum made five tackles, Arieon Shortridge four with Cox and Jamie Buchanan chipping in on defense.

Jr. Novice

Jr. Titans 33, Chargers 6 

Jeremiah Valdes stood out on offense and defense for the Chargers.

Jayden Shortridge scored the Chargers touchdown in the fourth quarter.
