Manteca is all business in dual-meet with Gators

Manteca’s Julia Sailing just misses a victory in the 50-breast during the Manteca Dolphins’ victory over the Oakdale Swim Team Saturday in Oakdale.
OAKDALE – There was little doubt as to who was the stronger program, as the Manteca Dolphins took care of business in their trip to Oakdale, handling the Gators with ease 903.5 to 767.5 in Mid-Valley Swim League action Saturday.

The Dolphins bounced back from a fourth-place finish in the 41st Annual Tracy Invitational, to put together an impressive meet against Oakdale. Several Dolphin standouts recorded multiple victories with eight-year-old Giovanni Padilla helping lead the way.

Padilla won the boys 50-free, 25-back, 25-free and teamed up with Matthew Trejo, Kyle Banks and Jason Machado to win the 100-medley relay by nearly a full minute. Ashlea Green excelled in the 9-10 year girls division, winning the 100-IM, 50-back, 50-breast and a 200-free relay victory as well.

Maverick Lin held his own in the boys 9-10 year old division, taking the 100-IM, 50-back, 50-breast and  200-free relay victories. Teammate Vanessa Flores won the 50-fly, 50-free and contributed on the 11-12 year old girls 200-free relay team’s win.

Darrel Yamamura won the 100-IM with a time of 1:23.83, he also won the 100-free and 50-breast. Mallory Brubaker won the 100-free, 50-free and was the only nine year old on Manteca’s winning  200-free relay squad.

Joey Barbuscia won a battle in the 9-10 year old 100-free, clipping teammate Brandon Mitchell by just .4 tenths of a second. Barbuscia won the event with a time of 1:38.02 and was also on the winning 200-free relay squad.

Jaqueline Davis, John Machado, Marissa Machado and Chris Wells all earned victories in the 100-free, while Davis recorded her win in the 50-fly, edging out teammate Emily Simons 46.46 to 46.51. Dolphin Nancy Enriquez celebrated a win in the 100-free, while Amar Christensen took home the 50-fly with a time of 38 seconds. Christensen also won the 50-back, while Enriquez was runner-up in the 50-free.

Marissa Machado made good in the 50-breast and 50-free as well as the victory in the 100-free.

Andrew McMillin was a multiple winner for Manteca, winning the 50-free (32.35) and the 50-back (39.35) against the Gators.
